Docking Station (includes Ac Adapter) Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using Vaio "Z-series" laptops for three generations now. I had been waiting for the VPC-Z11_GX/S series to replace my previous VGN-SZ750N.
Now, the Z-series port replicators (VGP-PRSZ1)had been the same since my first Z-series Vaio, so when I replaced my VGN-SZ680N with a VGN-SZ750N I didn't have to change anything.
The VGP-PRZ10 port replicator however is required for the VPC-Z11_GX/S. So I had to buy two new ones (office and home) when I bought a VPC-Z116GX/S.
The good part is the additional USB port (4 instead of the VGP-PRSZ1's 3) and the LAN pass through Ethernet ports (basically acting as a two-port switch).
It also accommodates the large capacity VGP-BPL20 battery and comes with a AC power supply (the VGP-PRSZ1 didn't - so now I have all those extra power supplies since they are the same).
What I don't like.
The VGP-PRZ10 blocks the VPC-Z11_GX/S-series laptops' HDMI port. Why? Why no HDMI port on the port replicator?
And why no stereo audio output?

Sony VAIO VGP-PRSR1 SR Series Port Replicator (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I'm very happy with my Sony laptop, but I expect more from Sony when it comes to this docking station, especially given how overpriced docking stations always are. It works, but there are two big problems with this docking station and one little one:
* No Microphone In and Audio Out ports: my external speakers have to be connected directly to the laptop. Everybody knows that laptops generally don't have good speakers, so excluding these ports from a docking station is inexcusable.
* Inconvenient power button: the laptop itself has a power button that doesn't function when the laptop lid is closed, which is a good feature for when I'm on the go. (Nobody wants their laptop accidentally turning on inside its bag.) However, there is no power button directly on the docking station, and the power button on the laptop STILL ceases to function when the laptop is docked. I have to open the lid each time I turn on the computer when the laptop is docked! Either the power button on the laptop should magically work when the computer is docked, or the docking station itself should have a power button on it.
Finally, the little problem. The docking station does not include a power cord, so don't forget to order that too. And the instructions with the docking station disingenuously caution the user to only use the power cord that was included with the laptop. Yeah, right! Docking stations are about convenience; every docking station purchaser buys an additional (also overpriced) power cord to use with the docking station. Nobody crawls under their desk to connect the power cord to the docking station each time they've returned to their office with the laptop. Not only should the docking station include a power cord, it should include a power cord with a longer cord suitable for an office environment.
Like I said, the Sony laptop itself is fabulous, but this docking station is bad icing on the cake.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Designed just for use with Sony Vaios, the docking station allows you to quickly and easily expand your connections. Lets you connect to your PC peripherals like a printer, ethernet cable, mouse or display with one quick move, which made life a whole lot easier. In a way, it converts your laptop into a desktop and can be removed quickly and easily. It includes many ports including the DC in, 4 USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, VGA out and DVI-D out. Would recommend to anyone looking for a docking station.
