It is simply "a shield" to protect your laptop from scratches when you are carrying the laptop in a backpack or laptop bag. The item is superiorly designed. There is a soft cushion inside the neoprene case. ALso, since it is neoprene, it conforms to your laptop size if it is little bigger than the case. My Dell 700m fits perfectly in this case.
