(More customer reviews)Loved this mouse when I got it, but it barely outlasted the warranty period. I agree with the other reviewer that it felt a little awkward to hold at first, but I got used to it. It worked as expected, and had a good "range"--that is, the mouse could be relatively far away from the computer and it still got good reception and worked well. Nice. Until it stopped working.
No big deal, really--sometimes it happens that you get a lemon. Since I had just purchased it less than six months ago, I called Sony. First, I had to call five different customer service numbers, most of which were not even toll free, looking for the right person to talk to. I was transferred, given different numbers to call, dropped, put on hold and so on... and every person I talked to seemed surprised I had been connected with them. I spent all morning on hold, on my dime. Then I was told that the warranty period was only 90 days, and had just expired. Lovely. To add insult to injury, they offered to give me a HUGE $4 discount if I paid $40 for another mouse they wouldn't guarantee would last more than 3 months. When I told them no thank you, they offered me four more dollars off.
Look, stuff happens, and I don't expect any mouse to last forever. But I would expect that when paying $40 for a something marketed as a top-of-the-line mouse, it will last longer than one purchased for three bucks in a dollar store somewhere. Maybe Vaio's other products are well made and reliable, but this one is not and that doesn't give me great confidence in their other offerings. Plus, since it took me five numbers, three transfers, and eight people to even get connected to someone who could address the problem, the customer service isn't great, either. I have a Vaio laptop that is currently working wonderfully (purchased at the same time), but the service was so bad for this mouse issue that I will probably not buy a Vaio again when I need a new laptop. Who wants to deal with that headache?
If you want a good mouse, GO NON-VAIO... or if you want to replace your mouse every few months, you may still want to GO NON-VAIO, so at least you can as avoid paying $40 each time.
