(More customer reviews)One of the few cases available for the 16.4" VAIO FW series laptops, this Casecrown case is quite slim, so much so that you actually have to nudge the laptop around as you're zipping it up - or else the zippers will get stuck. While that may be inconvenient at first, it's just a matter of time until the case is fully broken-in and should end up being a perfect fit for the laptop.
Like the main compartment, the front pocket is also very slim. Area-wise, it's very wide and tall (great for loosely wrapped cables, flash drives, newer [thinner] iPods, etc.), but is just barely deep enough to hold the fat brick that is the VAIO FW power supply. While the pocket does fully zip with the power supply inside, it's such a tight squeeze that I'd rather carry it separately.
I was disappointed that Casecrown does not offer this size case in plain Black, but the checkered pattern is actually quite sharp in person, much better looking than in any of the pictures. Not disappointed. Build quality of the case also appears to be quite good, although the memory foam needs to be more dense (its "memory" only lasts for about half a second), though it does still provide reasonable support. This case also has a white embossed Casecrown logo sewn onto the front, which you don't really see in any of the pictures. It'd look nicer without it, as it stands out being the only white thing on the case. I plan on going over it with a black sharpie.
This case is perhaps the least intrusive, most minimal case for the VAIO FW that still has a carry-handle. One step under this and you're buying a flimsy foam sleeve; one up and you're getting a full-on messenger bag with shoulder straps and 9 pockets. The Casecrown strikes a good balance between the two.
Note that Sony has discontinued the VAIO FW line, replacing it with the VAIO F. While the VAIO F weighs the same, and is also 16.4" with a 16:9 screen, it is THICKER than the FW. (and, according to the specs, is also 0.2 inches wider). Because the FW is such a tight fit in this case, I would be cautious using the case for the new VAIO F. Will you get it to fit? Yes, I'm sure it's perfectly possible with some effort. Will it be a struggle every time you want to zip it all the way shut? Definitely, especially for the first few months.
Then again, over time it'll break in, so if you're willing to deal with a super tight case for a few months then by all means go for it. It's a pretty nice case.
