It comes with an installation disk that says in very small print that if the computer doesn't recognize the battery, I should use it to update my PC's BIOS file. I plugged the power adapter/charger into my Vaio laptop, took out the old battery and put this one in and tried to turn on the computer. The battery indicator light was rapidly flashing and the computer refused to turn on. I took the battery out, put the old Sony battery back in and started the computer. Once it had booted up, I switched out the old Sony battery for this one. Within about a minute, I got a pop-up message that the computer did not recognize the battery or it had been installed incorrectly and the computer would go into hibernation when the message was closed. It did. But then, even after putting the old Sony battery back in, I couldn't turn the computer back on. Nothing was working, no indicator lights were showing at all. Finally, I tried holding the start button down and doing a forced shut down. That worked. I was then able to restart my computer with the old Sony battery. Once it was booted up, I put the installation disk in to review the instructions before I tried to actually do the installation/update. They were totally and completely indeciperable! They were so badly written it was comical. Total gibberish. Knowing that they are going to sell their products in the U.S., you'd think these Chinese manufacturers would get someone who understands English to write the English language instructions! I am returning this battery and will spend the extra $ to buy a genuine Sony and avoid the headache and hassle. Amazon should be ashamed of themselves for selling this kind of junk on their site!
